With all the computer speakers available in the market today, it may be a bit hard to choose which one to buy. You have to know what features to look for so that you can make an informed choice.

Computer speakers should be equipped with magnetic shielding. This is because magnets can be found in all kinds of speakers. There are actually two magnets in a computer speaker. One is a permanent magnet, and the other is an electromagnet. These magnets help create the sound that comes out of the speaker. Other than that, however, they may also create a magnetic interference, especially with cathode ray tube or CRT monitors. The larger the speakers are, the larger the magnets are. Consequently, there is also a larger chance of the magnets causing an obstruction. You need magnetic shielding to protect your monitor from magnetic distortion.

Speakers that have their own external controls can be very convenient. It is actually not a necessity, because sound cards come with volume controls which enable you to adjust the speaker’s sound using the computer. However, it is much easier to adjust the sound directly because that way, you will not have to launch a new program or open another window.

Amplifiers are devices that alter signal altitudes. They provide a better sound to your speakers by intensifying the speech, music, or other signals that it sends out. There are some speakers that are sold with the amplifiers already built in. However, the amplifier needs power to work, so you either need to attach batteries or connect it to an external power source. If you do not wish to provide batteries, you can choose to buy a speaker whose amplifier has an AC wall adapter.

There are speakers available on the market today that come in a flat panel design. Although its performance is basically the same as that of the regular speaker, you will have to pay a bit more for this kind of speaker. This is because its sleek and modern design allows you to save space without sacrificing sound quality. Flat panel speakers are usually only a few inches thick.

There is one speaker enhancement that you may choose to buy if you are serious about getting good sound quality. It is called a subwoofer. A subwoofer is a loudspeaker that is designed to reproduce audio frequencies that are in the bass range, and sometimes even lower. What this does is it enables the speakers to make realistic sound effects. Installing subwoofers can give you a realistic and much more enjoyable gaming or movie-watching experience.
